In Agni Yoga, Dokyood is one of the Brotherhood’s supermundane Abodes in the Subtle World. Supermundane verse 41 places it in the context of the Brotherhood’s Strongholds there, while verse124 describes its protection by luminous currents and identifies it as a place where co-workers rest before undertaking new work. This description grounds our understanding of Dokyood in the Teaching’s own statements.
“Urusvati remembers her visit to Dokyood, where it was a great joy to see children striving for heroic deeds. It is also interesting to see those who have not yet outlived their physical experiences. They are unable to approach the physical atmosphere from the Subtle World, because such an approach causes tension in the subtle body, and results in the secretion of an unusual sweat that decreases the vital force. Thus, the Guide must regulate the inner condition to conform to the degree of desire for Service.” (Supermundane, §132.)
COMMENTARY
The children’s striving shows that aspiration toward courageous, selfless achievement continues in the Subtle World. The passage also describes those whose earthly experiences still condition them: approaching the physical atmosphere strains their subtle bodies and depletes their vital force. The Guide therefore helps bring their inner condition into accord with their desire for Service, so that aspiration can find an appropriate expression. Enthusiasm needs preparation, equilibrium, and wise guidance. For us as co-workers, this suggests a practical task: to cultivate courage and generosity while learning to serve with discrimination, respecting both the work before us and the strength available to carry it out.
